PC_Cricket0045Postcard franked Southend-on-Sea 1932 - Tuck “Oilette” No 3621 - Original painting by Fred Buchanan (PC_Cricket0045) Friend Charles (Fred) Buchanan was born in June 1879 in Woolwich, on the south bank of the Thames in London. His unusual given name, Friend, prompted family, friends, and neighbours to call him Fred, a name he used in all matters except legal documents. Buchanan had a long association (1908-1932) with Raphael Tuck & Sons, in the course of which he did at least 26 sets of postcards.
