Report of HAGS-UK outing to Donnington Valley
2/3 August 2006
Another annual outing has come and gone, by all
accounts successfully. A
reasonable turnout - 14/15 golfers and 15 for dinner - but we need some new
blood (or to rekindle some old blood).
For the record, the results of the outing to Donnington Valley on 2/3 August 2006 were:
Day 1 Ind’l Stableford: Winner: Les Thompson (32 points)
Runner-up: Bryan White (30 points)
Longest drive (6/7!!): unclaimed
Nearest pin (9): Penny Ward
Day 2 Texas Scramble:
Winners: Carpenter, Corbyn, Boyd, French (h'cap 7) - 64 nett
Runners-up: White, Wood, Thomas (13) - 66 nett
Longest drive (7): Nigel French
Nearest pin (9): Roger Thomas
The golfing conditions were challenging on both days because of the wind, but we were fortunate that the weather stayed dry. Accommodation and dinner at Donnington Valley were superb - pity the spa/health club was not ready!!
As agreed, the cost of the wine over dinner (£112 - receipt on file) was charged to the generous contribution from the Hong Kong HAGS. That leaves £238 for next and subsequent years.
Arrangements for next year will be put in hand in due course on the basis of the following heads of agreement:
- Date: 1st or 2nd week in August 2007
- Location: South of the M4 or maybe a bit further north if a suitable venue is found
- Golf course with on-site accommodation
- Standard of accommodation: Preferably 4* hotel or equivalent (or better if price is right) - prices are of course going up every year, but I'll aim for £120 or less (single supplement extra)
- Golf: Texas scramble on Day 1 and Individual stableford (main comp) of Day 2
- Prizes: To be provided by organiser, subject to small (<£5 contribution from members attending
